This is growing up a a very large obelisk it has been in the ground now for a good few many years, and we do cut it back every spring to keep it under control .....but I would not like to be without it as it is a very good splash of colour.

Amy - if you find the variety 'Golden Tassels', it is less vigorous than the species and possibly more suitable for an obelisk
