Ligularia stenocephala

Ligularia stenocephala (Ligularia stenocephala)

Eye catching! Zone 5-7 but I'm trying it anyway. I'll pile on a mulch and cold frame it in plastic. I am in love!

I am one of the converted too, Greenthumb. I have two and love them both...there are a variety of leaf shapes and sizes... I have five plants coming up from seed from the Gregy...strange thing is...I think they have reverted... the leaves are slow to take on the redness that I so love in the parent plant...and when they emerge they are fuzzy gray. I'm watching it closely to see what's going to develop... should post a pic of a lig baby... check out Nadia's pics..she's growing one too!

Think they'll make a cold winter, or should I bring them in?

The gregy made it through two winters... seemed ok with no special cover or protection... but not sure with permafrost below...could you plant it near your foundation? the warmth from the heated house could ensure it's survival...

Hmmmm. It would be up by the porch on the house pad. My house is up on pilings. But that spot doesn't get the cold winds or anything. I'm willing to try it i think.

Maybe you could pot it up and bring it in... I'm such a chicken! I bring my waterlilies in every year...when I could just as easily sink them in the pond...but I just don't want to take the chance I'll lose them!!

I'm thinking of potting up bulbs for next year along the front window. Cool floor in winter and easy to watch. She might come in and live with them. Haven't visited the greenhouse manager whom has the correct information if she overwintered them once or not.

See who else is growing Ligularia stenocephala.

See who else has plants in genus Ligularia.
