Flowering on the stream bank. Sadly, the snails ate the second flower spike!

Oh dear - this year, they were the snails' favourites, too! I had two stems - and the dratted things stripped them both....grrrrr.....

My remaining plants are in a raised bed protected by a ring of sharp gravel.
I have fresh stock coming on for next year which will go into large pots lined with plastic. I fold the plastic liner inwards at the top & put coffee grounds in between the pot & the liner.That seems to work too.

i would have great difficulty copying that, Meanie - they are on the stream bank, so planting in squelchy silt-and-stones isn't easy - especially if it rains a lot, then the whole bank is under water! I have submarine plants, then. I'm afraid the coffee grounds would float down into the Bristol Channel! I do like the idea - but sadly, it wouldn't work here.
