Mango update..

Mango update.. (Mangifera indica (Mango))

It has a few. Plus its flushing new grow. Still, its a slow growing tree. I wish I had cut all the flowers off all these years. But,with just one tree? That denial of a few sweet fruit was more then I could do. I guess I don't have the patience.
So,my advice to newbies would probably be ignored also. Hard to let years go by.

Lovely to see its getting new growth a few fruit is better than none . Why on earth would you want to cut the all the flowers off thats the fruit. What do you feed it with Stan?

Removing flowers Penny, forces the tree to make leafy growth.Otherwise they put all the growing season energy into making a few fruit on very young tree's. That makes them weak for withstanding a temperate winter.
I let them develop a few two years in a row..last year with no flowers it grew much faster. This year is a compromise.

Thanks Stan for explaining by cutting the flowers it strengthens it for over wintering and increases the foliage interesting I would nt of thought it.

Besides not being near the speed of growth as a temperate tree Penny, they (Mangoes) when sold are usually less then 3' and very spindly. Citrus that size are times more leafy. Avocados are a little spindly but they are much hardier to cold- one at least has grown into a tree in London.
Mangoes this far north should be planted in numbers to enjoy plenty of fruit. I dont have the room.

That surprised me Stan that Magoes are spindly I imagined them being bushy.

Only spindly as seedlings,or young tree's Penny.

Thank you Stan for letting me know its just seedlings and young tree's.

I roughly count about 5 Mangoes on the tree that look like they will stay and not be aborted. So,I'm a bit disappointed at the low count.
I just bought a box of the small yellow Mangoes..delicious. Its going to be years more before I get that much in one summer.
Oh well.

Thats a shame but 5 is better than none lets hope the amount increases next year Stan. I ve never seen small yellow Mango s they say mango s are very good for the lungs and preventing cancers.
here when Cadburys built Bournville village with houses for their workers one condition they could live there was they had to grow minimum of three fruits in their gardens so perhaps Cadbury s new what sweets do to our bodies right back then. I no longer buy Cadbury s since the Americans Kraft I think bought it the chocolate is horrid they have ruined Cadbury s Roses vile and causes my daughter and I stomach pain each time we ate their chocolate bars of any kind..

Cadburys used to be sooooo good. I love chocolate. Chocolate truffles are god's gift!

I recounted Penny. I think I can get 7 mango fruits off the little tree this year. Still hard to say what size they will be. So far previous fruit from it were palm sized. Sweet!

At least you have some on the tree reading up on Mango s for you they need a very cold snap in the evening like in the tropics at night which makes the tree produce more flowers a lot of those flowers will drop off as the tree will only produce what it can cope with . You dont need to prune it either only if you want to keep it a certain size not to grow to big. It also has an indistructable root system.

Its very destructable here Penny. I'm really at the very edge of the plants growing range. But,I never wished harder a plant go could grow large and fast as this one. I practically count every new leaf..and never let it go dry, fertilize, and its got more room then most plant I have to spread. Thats not much- but, best I can do.

Its good to hear you spoil it with so much care Stan yes you can only do your best with such restricted space.
