Constance Spry (Rosa multiflora (Rose))

Newer fails to please - beautiful, and deliciously scented; out in her glory in June with a few flowers following in August/September.

Hi Caitio,
Amazing picture, makes me very happy to see this! I almost ordered this rose but ordered 3 Gertrude Jekyll's and 2 Eden climber's from David Austin. Do you have the roses I just bought? If you do, can you post some pics? Thank you, Dahlia

Hi Dahlia - glad you like the photo - it is a stunning rose. I had a struggle choosing between all the lovely David Austin roses - In the end I chose this one and wasn't disappointed. However, I lusted after the Gertrude Jekyll too....and a couple of years later, found I simply couldn't resist - so yes, I've that one now - though only one and it will be another couple of year I think before she can compete with Constance! I'm sure you'''be thrilled with your choice (its also a good repeater with a second flush if you're lucky later in the dying days of Summer) - to whet your appetite I'll post a pic of one of last year's blooms.

We've a couple of wee roses we inherited with the garden which aren't scented but are pretty, no "Eden" but one more David Austin competes for the archway with Gertrude - "the Generous Gardener" - again absolutely gorgeous fragrance, a little paler pink than Constance Spry, and the flowers are plentiful, but don't last as long.

Good luck with your rose garden!

Hi Caito,
I would love to see a pic of last year's blooms! How long does Constance bloom for? I almost chose Constance, but heard that she only blooms for spring and that it was a very short bloom. Did you find this to be true? Thanks, Dahlia
