The more usually encountered form of this bulb has double flowers, but this is the single form.

Yes it is. The double form is just coming into flower now, so the single is out a few days earlier.

mine is still a tight 'spike'. but it is in a very shady part of the garden.

is this commonly called blood root Andrew. Its pretty and I like the single form very much. its a lovely clean white.
