I should have added 'dry'as well as warm weather, Stikitoffee; They grow well next to water at Kew.

ok thanks, i will keep on with the watering ~ not so easy ~ its very free draining soil ~ would it be better in a cooler spot?

I think cool and damp will be ideal, and you are probably right about the free draining soil being a problem.
