THE OAK AND THE ASH......

While on a recent walk with my walking club we came across a large tree in the middle of a field, and was told a story of how many years ago two lovers from neighbouring villages were forbidden to meet so they planted an acorn from an Oak and a seed from an Ash tree and they grew entwined around each other.Probably an “old folklore story” but lovely never the less, just thought I would share.

Some did say that an Oak tree lives for 300 years and then dies does anyone know if this is true, because it didn’t look too healthy?

I`m sure I read somewhere a while back that some of our oak trees were getting a disease of some sort and having to be carefully monitored, can`t think where I saw it though. Its a lovely pic Poppy..

We thought our local oaks were diseased this year as the leaves were so yellow in May but they eventually turned green...and now turning orangey yellow again. Nature is wonderful! There is a horrible condition called "Acute Oak Disease" which is predominantly in the South/Midlands (so far). Fingers crossed it will not be the next dutch elm disease :-(
