why have my star jasmine leaves turned red and are dropping off

This started to occur at the beggining of the season and the garden centre expert diagnosed red spider mite and it seemed to resolve by using the recomended bug spray.
Now in the space of 2 days the leaves have turned dark red and are dropping off in abundance. This is happening on three different jasmine climbers in different areas of the garden

Sounds like drought to me - don't know where you live in the UK, but around London, we've had nowhere near enough rain, and everything that's not been watered by hose or can is suffering.
