MY ACERS ARE BOTH PLANTED IN LARGE POTS ON A PATIO. THEY BOTH SEEM TO BE SUFFERING FROM WHAT LOOKS LIKE EITHER OR BOTH WINDBURN OR POT BOUND. THEY ARE BOTH REGULARLY WATERED BUT NOT OVERLY,THE LEAVESBOTH HAVE CURLED UP. THEY ARE BOTH DEEP PURPLE IN COLOUR AND ABOUT 5FT. TALL WITH A SPREAD OF ABOUT 6FT. THE POTS ARE ABOUT 2FT DEEP AND 3 FT IN CIRCUMFERENCE

Are you able to post a pic? It could be autumning, wind burn, caterpillar damage, die back so a pic would help.

Kilder is probably right. Mine don't look so special at the moment. They mite also need a bigger pot or may need planting in the ground next spring.

They do hate the wind though, and really need a sheltered spot. I wish I had know that before I planted mine, which only lasted two seasons alas.

Someone I once knew grew Acers in big pots as her main form of decorating her garden. Her OH told me, when asked, that they were repotted and root pruned a little every 3-4 years. I mused aloud about the difficulty of this and was told it was done in rotation. Under strict instructions from 'er indoors' and more than one pair of hands, but not hers! She was a very secretive, quiet person, her ACERS were spectacular.
