Today at the plant man in the layby near to where i live I came across this little thing. The plant man said it was phygellius. I asked him if he was 100% sure and he said yes it was a new variety. it is a woody cutting.
I grow the fanfare and candydrops varieties of phygellius and said so. he is sticking to his guns.
what do you good people think?

now you have given me a name i have found it via google. thanks jonathan.
it is indeed Ptilotus exaltatus 'Joey'.
treat it as a HHA as it is frost tender from oz, apparently. one i will try to keep going i think.
lily2, thanks for the nice comment on the grass but it really is not as good as it looks. lots of coarse lawn grass, weeds and moss. hubby keeps it quite long to stop it looking so weedy.

Yes, I had a feeling it was an Australian thing. Grows to 30 to 40 cm, and is nice for tubs.

Well, I didn't think it was a Phygelius either, but I know that now, don't I? lol.
It's very pretty, SBG.

i tried to 'argue' with the plant man but he was adamant. i'll pop a long to see him today with a proper name for him. i can see how the names can be confused.

I've no idea but it looks very interesting. The lawn looks very impressive! Mine has no stripes and is a sickly yellowish green despite my attempts to encourage it. Think it badly needs rain.
