I see this a lot and wonder what it is. I used to think that lol meant lots of love and thought bloggers were the most affectionate of people. Forgive my ignorance and nosiness.

Like you, when I first came on here I thought everybody was over-friendly saying lots of love all the time! (I've never ever sent or received a text so am not up on these things). Decided to ask my granddaughter and after she picked herself up off the floor she gave me a lesson including smiley and sad faces! :))

i know what you mean about not knowing .my youngest son once got bit by a dog so i text to tell my eldest son who was away.he text back lol i thought it meant lots of love but after speaking to him later he meant laugh out loud.brotherly love eh.

:-) someone smiling
:-p sticky out tongue
;-) a wink
:-o shocked/gobsmacked
;-/ confused
and i think this ones angry :-%
oh and sad :-(
2 Jul, 2009
And all this because there is no facility for adding smileys to messages other than the old fashioned make it up yourself, though ;-) means a wink and a smile to me. As for lol, well, I thought the same as you, because the first time I saw it in a text message, it was my son saying lots of love. I eventually realised it also meant laugh out loud.

4 Jul, 2009
To me it is 'laugh out loud'.
4 Jul, 2009
how about "lots of lobelia"? Which incidentally I don't have since my helpful son took the shears to them (he saw a fly sitting on one apparently)
or "ladybird on lettuce"? There must be some more GOY-customised ones we can work on?
4 Jul, 2009
Lots of learning?

I like the no-smilies GoY personnally. More creative to do your own ;-) I also do:-
x-) and x-D....I'll keep you guessing with those!
Peter and Ajay run GoY - they are friendly guys and if you have a problem with GoY you can send them a message (link at bottom of page) and they will usually get back to you very quickly by PM (personal message) or e-mail. They both do regular blogs and it's worth marking them as 'favourites' so that you get all the GoY news, such as if they've updated or changed something on the site. Peter also keeps us updated of what plants are mentioned on Gardeners World. 654wszaq he he - sorry about that - dropped teh keyboard LOL

Sid, I think I agree. I belonged to a "dog lovers" web site where smileys were used, but as some of the members were not very nice (nasty) the smileys were used in a snide, bullying way, perhaps smileys is not quite the word? Mookins, I followed your lead and asked for smileys ;-( do you think I'll appear somewhat indecisive if I get back in touch with Peter and Anjay saying please no smileys? Everyone is so nice and friendly on here I should hate it to alter in any way.
8 Jul, 2009
They are also called Emoticons I think - as in emotion-icons if you want to get all teckie!!
BTW it's Ajay - not Anjay ;-) but I'm sure he won't be offended lol
8 Jul, 2009
It's supposed to be a little face Bornagain !
In the event of no 'smileys' to use on this forum we use the keyboards keys to make smiley faces !!!!
You can make smiley or sad or shocked faces :))
