Several days ago the air (dog walking field) was filled with an exquisite perfume from this large tree. I'd love to know what it is, I thought perhaps a lime?

Wow, do you know which one Fractal?

It is possibly Silver Lime (Tilia tomentosa) but hard to tell. The stamens seem unusually long?

....and because of this, I'm now going to plump for Tilia cordata instead :-)

Bang on Fractal, I've googled it and it's definitely the one. I keep seeing limes now that I can recognise them. I'm very ignorant about trees in fact at first, I thought they were beech trees :-l

It is indeed a Lime/Linden (Tilia).
