I also snap off the ovaries, to make sure the plant puts more energy into the bulb for next year and not waste it on seed production.

Probably a daft question Trees but where are the ovaries?

Its what is left behind after the petals drop. Just snap them off.

Not an answer but a question now. I received lilies for Mom's Day. They are just "sticks" now so will snap off. They are in a pot, can they stay in the pot and will they grow next year or do they need new soil, or to be put outside? If it matters I live in Fl, USA. Thanks! Pat

Next question
when my lilies die off, i let them get to the stage that the stems are like dried sticks then you just snap them off and there ready for next year
