This is a particularly well coloured variety worth saving the seed. They don't trnsplant at all well so sow them in Spring where you want them to grow.

The immature seed pods are cut and the white liquid that seeps out is opium. Yes it is used to produce Heroin but without it we wouldn't have Morphine/Codeine.
We have one randomly growing in a pot in our garden, it's such a gorgeous colour. Think I'll go and take a photo of it actually!

wow didnt know that, I had morphine when I was in hospital certainly made life a bit more comfortable.

Morphine is, of course, addictive but I do so agree with the comfortable - I could not have managed without it and preferably at the push of a button.
