Kliems Hardy Gardenias

I just planted healthy Kliems Hardy Gardenias. They have been in the ground only one week. Now the lower limbs have fallen to the ground and some of the leaves are turning yellow. What do you think the problem is? We live in zone seven and have had two heavy rains since planting. The soil has stayed moist. We have heavy clay soil but I amended it with Leaf Compost and a product called Black Kow. I am just at a loss as to why these gardenias are doing this. Every single one (out of seven) are doing this. They are planted at soil level. Should they have been planted up higher (mounded above soil)? Any suggestions or answers to this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.
