Silene maritima
I have just cleared a patch (Hah, 15 sq. mts ) of this stuff. I have removed as many roots as possible, but I was wondering if the roots are 'persistent' like say Dandelions. Or, as long as I have removed all growing point, do they die away?

Only took 6 wheelbarrow loads to clear it! Hopefully it will not regrow. There were an awful lot of mollusc eggs under it too. I have just been over the area with the flame gun to kill them off and hopefully any seeds. I would have used Roundup on it, but there are things which are growing through the mass and I do want to keep them.

I was sent some Silene seeds by AGS and have pricked them out. Wondering now what to do with them !
Will put into pots and see what happens.

Most Silene are hardy, Diane, and can overwinter outside. As these are this years seedlings I would be leaving most of them outside but bringing a few into the unheated greenhouse, just in case.

Thank you John.

I have just removed one plant, Owdboggy, that was getting too big. The roots were fiberous beneath a woody neck so, provided that you got down beneath the neck the remaining roots won't grow again. (fingers crossed - you never can tell with plants!)
