whats happening to my gooseberries?

Fruit has changed over the past few years from normal reddish hairy fruit to half sized blackish berries. Tastes equally as nice. I have other fruit growing in the same area, Black currants, apples, raspberries and redcurrants. Could it be a case of cross pollination?????Is this unusual??

As Sbg says they can't cross pollinate.
I wonder if this is a feature of red gooseberries. Just along the lane are some gooseberry bushes in the hedgerow. Whist some have tasty red berries on others have smaller blackened berries but still taste the same. Could it be an aging thing?

they wouldnt cross polinate as they are totally different species. It may be a sucker from the rootstock that is giving the other fruit now. This often happens with apples and their close relatives.
welcome to GoY too.
