I don't know what type my mallow is, it is tall and has arching stems with flowers all along (pale pink). Can I cut it down as with other border plants, to encourage it to be more bush next year. Also, can I get any more plants off it as I'd like another one nearby.

you can try to take cuttings from a non flowering tip of a stem. cut a length about 2-3" long and pop into a pot of good compost. remove most of the leaves leaving only 2 or 3 on. keep the cuttings slightly warm and just moist. they ususally root in 3-4 weeks.
are there any seed pods on any of the oldest dead flowers? they will grow easily too.
