Why move them, eat them, buy new stock they will be stronger/new flavours larger plants.

Sorry Sunne it makes much more sense to move your existing canes than buy new ones and, presumably, Waddington has already eaten the rasps! Why waste what you already have to buy and plant new?

Reminds me of the time I wanted to bring half a dozen of my pelargoniums under glass for the winter with the intentions of taking cuttings the following spring to replenish our regular stock, MG. One of our neighbours laughed because we could get 'the real thing' very cheaply next year. She couldn't understand that half the fun of being a gardener is to take your own cuttings, collect your own seed, divide your own roots etc. and *that* is the real thing. I'm firmly on your side here.

We're like you - we end up growing so many plants from collected seed Bulba has a wee plant stall at the gate during late spring and early summer where he sells of alpines and rock garden plants folk love it they know the plants are well grown and come back year on year to buy more.

It is usual to transplant new canes in the dormant season. I split mine usually about December to February depending on the weather.
