Can I grow wisteria in pots to train over trellis?

I am looking to perhaps grow this over pergola in my back yard from pots?

It will need to be a very big pot with john innes compost and fed regularly. they have a big thirst and appetite and will be ok for a few years but not for a long period

I agree, you will get away with it in a container for a short while but it would hate being in a pot long term.
Most climbers like a cool root run too and many mistakes happen with a pot in full sun that heats up. Terrible mistake!

Hi Melly welcome to GoY.I had a wisteria in large pot for nearly 3 yrs.It didn`t do to bad,but as they are very slow growing,i decided to plant it in the ground 3 wks ago and i can see a difference in growth already. Hope this helps a bit:~))))
