Purchased 2/3 years ago and has never flowered. Planted at front of border in semi shade. Clay soil. Located in east Essex with relatively low rainfall. Thanks

Or Agapanthus - but both the plants you have displayed in your questions are very clearly suffering from lack of water. Agapanthus needs sun and water to flower at all and all plants won't flower well with frequent drought situations.

i discounted agapanthus as mine doesnt have the criss cross pleated leek ish form of the leaf. if you know what i mean.

Thanks for the advice. I think the best option is hemerocallis as I have agapanthus so will replant in the sun with a few more specimens later on. I note the lack of water so would appreciate a view on how often the garden should be soaked during dry periods.

looks like it may be a daylily or hemerocallis. the semi shade may be the problem as most of these prefer full sun.
