Black flies (blackfly?) on sweetpeas

I have three large pots of sweetpeas a fair distance from each other, all different varieties. When I checked them this evening I noticed that the pot that is doing least well is covered in tiny black flies.
Should I be worried about this and do something to them? If so what?
One pot is completely free of them and the third had just one or two....

Problem is I'm not sure what they are. They look very like blacker thunderflies/fruit flies. If they are not going to hurt the sweetpeas I'd as soon do nothing.....

If they're aphids, spray them with insecticide, preferably a systemic one.
