Is it possible that a Clusia rosea dies because of too much water/rain?

We have a Clusia rosea in The Gambia, a flat country. Now it is rainy season and the Clusia is dying. Is this because of too much rain or should there be another reason?

Just looked it up by googling it - this tree apparently survives both very wet and very dry conditions, so I wouldn't think so. It is, though, prone to root rot, though no further details were available on the site I looked at.

How do I say thanks?
