Just appeared in a pot on the patio.
Flowers look like cucumber / marrow, "fruits" are prickly looking

Thanks for suggestion, I had looked at Datura but the leaves seemed much broader than any pics I could get hold of.

If the plant is growing in good compost etc...it WILL have bigger leaves. Mine were MASSIVE the first year ...now they are smaller but the plants are just as floriferous as you will see by the pic in among my photos.

You are close Alzheimer but not quite bullseye, this is Datura stramonium, the Thorn Apple. It is an introduced escapee weed of cultivation and is quite poisonous too.

I stand - sorry - sit corrected, Fractal....and SO pleased that you could identify Ian b's plant more accurately...it is SO good to get it right - thanks!!
However I AM aware that all Daturas
like many members of the family Solanaceae are poisonous.

Many thanks Fractal, you seem to be spot on - pictures of D.Stramonium found on net are very conclusive. Just a question now i=of getting rid of it, too many kids around to risk.
Thanks again

Previous question
Hi there ! It is a Datura Meteloides (Angels Trumpets) and they do seed themselves....I have had them for some years now - and they just self seed in the pot I started them in! VERY prickly seed pods that dry up - split and spill their black seed.
I have the lavender one and they are of the same family as the Brugmansia..whose trumpets hang down. Nice perfume in the evenings too!
