I save my bouganvillas in my greenhouse from year to year. Usually I move them outside in full sun in late march--early april. and put them in greenhouse second week of Nov. I try not to prune them much. The problem is that they bloom n ot much in summer --but wait until late sept. or mid-Oct before they bloom--what's the problem?

Some varieties of Bougainvillea spectabilis seem to bloom best when the nights are as long, or longer, than the days. If they are actually hybrids or B. glabra, regular feeding with a high potash tropical plant food can stimulate bloom. Occasional wilting during the summer can also kill the developing flower buds, so keep an eye on the soil moisture when the weather is hot.
