reducing a lonicera hedge

I have been trying to reduce the width of an old lonicera hedge but I am finding that the shears won't go far into the old wood as it is too dense. Would electric hedge trimmers make the job easier- I was thinking of investing in some new ones? Also, how far can I cut into it so that it will still regrow?
Thanks for any tips.

Follow Dr. Bob's advice. and all should be well, it is one of the best shrubs for regrowth.

Lonicera tolerates a hard prune. It's a bit of a pest in some parts actually, so I wouldn't be fussy - I think you could remove about 40% of the growth safely.

You will find a short handled pair of loppers the best tool for the job. Cut into the hedge as much as half the length from the main stems, only do one side at a time.
