Can anybody intentify a plant that has appeared in my garden?

This plant suddenly appeared in my garden and has grown to a height of approx 5-6 ft in a few months. Is it poisonous?

yes i think pokeweed too. i think the berries are poisonous but if you know then there shouldnt be a problem.

I thought this was a serious gardening site. I don't think the last 2 replies are really funny considering this plant is poisonous.

Sorry unclejack, we do sometimes like a gentle joke on this site too. It is a very interesting plant, the berries are eaten by birds and the leaves apparently can be eaten when thrice cooked! but I wouldn't try it myself. As you probably know, many of our common garden plants are poisonous and as seaburngirl says it should not be a problem now thatyou know.
