winter plant??

I have several of these coming up, they have been growing since the spring amongst my annuals.
Very stiff leathery leaves so I am guessing they are winter plants. I think they may be from seeds I scattered after collecting from Wisley last year.
I cant for the life of me remember what they are though...

No, I don't think so - not if they're stiff, Louise.

They look very much like an eryngium I have.

I'd say eryngium planum. Did you move an eryngium from here? They will regernate from any piece of root left in the ground

Now you mention it I did collect seeds from several varieties of sea holly towards the end of last year and I now remember spreading them in several different areas of light, and soil type, around the garden to see if any took.
Interestingly, they have only taken in the most shaded areas of my garden. I thought most eryngium liked plenty of light and dryish soil?

now I'm confused??? as I also sowed hellebore seeds at the start of the year. If it helps I dug up a couple and the roots look exactly like small parsnips
