How thirsty are conifers
By Mookins

the reason I ask is we have a reasonably large one in our fron garden, centre of the lawn which was here when we moved in.
Anyway I was thinking of expanding the small bed around the bottom and planting something in it.
So really I need to know about the roots and the water it needs as I dont wnt to
a) strangle what ever I put in
b)have them all compete for water and lose everything.
cheers to all

Hi' again Mookin, it seams that your tree has been there some time, they drink a lot of water the first few years after that their tap roots have reached the water table and they are no longer a problem except'''they are shalow rooted some times you will get a large root even braking through the surface ,so if it is near the house it could do damage to your house or next door's drive, sorry about that , I hope this dose not stop the kisses, CliffX
