I have bought four Pernettyas and put them in a pot at my front door. Are they going to spread and take the pot over or will they just sit looking pretty like the Winter Cherry?

You don't say how big the pot is but I would expect the Pernettyas to fill it after a few years - by the way, just to confuse, they are now part of the genus Gaultheria.

they are slow growing so if they are just as winter 'bedding' they will be slow growing.

Thank you, they are just for winter bedding, if they are still good in the Spring I will put them in a flower bed.

They are long lived perennials so please do not bin in spring.

I didn't know that, will it be ok for me to move them in Spring because I usually put something pretty and springlike at my front door which is fairly sheltered.

It would be useful to know which Gaultheria you have - some make useful ground cover and only get a few inches high, but spread, and others get to be very tall shrubs, and may not be something you want to transplant to your garden.
Generally, yes it will be fine to move the plants to the garden in spring if you wish to do so - but you will have to keep them watered during dry spells in spring and summer until they've grown sufficient roots to seek out their own water.

Thanks, much appreciated. I can't say whih ones they are. I will simply have to wait till next year to see how they do!

Nobody has mentioned this but I'm pretty sure they will need ericaceous compost when you plant them out in the garden.
