can anyone help plz ? name this plant my daughter bought for me and i cannot look up how to look after it because i dont know the name ,i love it and want to care for it properly

The extra red bit confused me, but I agree with Hywel in all respects. They can last a long time.

In good conditions, the offsets should bloom after about 2-3 years.

It's a Bromeliad .... maybe 'Scarlet Star' (?)
Keep it in a heated room, and water in the centre of the rosette. The compost should only be kept barely moist. It also likes shade and a humid atmosphere.
It will die after the flowers finish, but may form offshoots around it's side, which in time can be separated and potted up on their own :o)
