Does anyone know what this is? I will try and find another picture which shows the flower too. Thanks!

I should have known you'd have the answer Bamboo! Any tips on care and maintenance please? Its just growing straight upwards, and I think I am pruning it at all the wrong times, as it didn't flower much this year. I love how neat it is though, it only goes up, never sideways!

I'm not sure that's what it is though - why, does that name ring a bell for you? The only Viburnum I know that has tiny flowers, as shown in your 2nd pic, has larger leaves than this one.

Well the stepmother in law said it was a daphne - could that be right? I thought Viburnum sounded right because it looked similar to another plant that was on tv - I really have no clue though. The flowers are usually in small clusters and are a whitey pink.

Sounds more like a viburnum than a daphne

From the leaves and the upright habit, I would say viburnum x bodnantense, one of the winter flowering viburnums

Thanks both of you - there's been all sorts of discussions on the second question too, which has been helpful.

Flowers would help - at present, it's reminding me of one of the Viburnams
