Identifying a plant

Single stem. Apprx 9inches high. Topped with bright red berries. Is it a woodland plant. Looks very poisonous. Usually seen early summer. Hence no photo!

Born again, he was a fern leaf once - I remember it too, but it was more a painting of a fern leaf rather than the real thing.

Probably Lords and Ladies, an arum and yes, it is poisonous.
