WINTER FLOWERS FOR PLANTING NOW!!!!

COULD ANYONE PLEASE GIVE ME SOME ADVICE ON WHAT FLOWERS I CAN PLANT IN PATIO CONTAINERS AND HANGING BASKETS. I NORMALLY PLANT SOME FLOWERS IN THE SUMMER, BUT DUE TO ILLNESS HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DO IT THIS YEAR. I HAVE NEVER HAD WINTER FLOWERS BEFORE, AND THOUGHT THAT THIS WOULD TAKE MY MIND OFF THINGS, IF I DO THAT THIS END OF THE YEAR.
ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED

I take it this your question then! Usual thing is pansies, ivies, small evergreens. These depend on what you can find - quite often, garden centres have very small versions of evergreen shrubs (cuttings that have grown on) which are useful to put in pots and tubs as a centre point, surrounded by pansies and ivy to trail over. Small conifers, too. Otherwise, primula or polyanthus - they don't flower till spring, but at least they're green. I just did a window box for someone with small Hebe (the variegated, slightly tender ones), ivies, ophiopogon and pansies, and another with small Convulvulus cneorum, small Leucothoe scarlatti, ivies, pansies. Its all that kind of thing - other people may have other great ideas. Happy planting;-)

Also Primulas are just about ready too, trailing Ivy gives interest, miniture spring bulbs can be added as well such as iris, crocus, and tete e tete and little gem Narsiss, (snow drops may not flower their first year) The problem with shrubs they can be quite scruffy by January. Conifers really need to be the miniture ones or they can look a bit odd. Buy bigger plugs of pansies etc to avoid being disappointed. Sorry as I was writing this you had lots of answers.

you can plant pansies, violas, myosotis, dianthus, cinnerarea, and all sorts of small conifers or shrubs to compliment them.
