Has anybody living in the north of Scotland grown elephant garlic? I'd love to try growing some but haven't attempted any garlic before.

There is a local garlic growing company here Spider and they grow elephant garlic... and just about every other garlic too! They are on Moray coast.

I'll send for some Elephant Garlic and give it a try but it will be very much an experiment. I'd love to be able to bung in a lovely big bulb into the oven with the roast dinner - yum! Up here it's the postage that bites ouch!

Know what you mean, Spider, we are the same. Just off the main Aberdeen/Inverness trunk road but we are considered 'Highlands and Islands' by the English carriage companies.
Good luck with the garlic. On a small, domestic scale could it work in the greenhouse?

Thanks for the 'good luck' message.
We don't have a greenhouse but once we get a place of our own we sure will (live in a rented cottage at the mo) and then I'll really experiment!

Sorry, Spider, but we don't grow garlic at all. The veggie scheme that we used to belong to did grow garlic with reasonable success most years. This was grown on a north facing hillside, probably about 100m above sea level, near Forres.
