Does the plant die back in Autumn/Winter?

I bought "Vision in Red" from Castle Howard Garden centre in August and now I find it is dying back I am not sure if it does this or not.

Yes this is quite normal for Astilbes, cut off the old foliage when it looks unsightly and it will sprout back (probably larger) in spring.
