please help identify a mystery tree

we have a tree in our hedge. it has just had sept flowers; small white sweetly smelling. it has green berries in the spring. Oval berries and speckled colouring. The leaves are smooth and mid green. I am worries about the berries and our toddlers but I have no idea what it is.

Is it evergreen or deciduous?

Could be an Eleaeagnus if evergreen. The fragrant late flowers and speckled berries sound about right. I don't think they are poisonous if it is this indeed some species are used for food.
