magnolia stellata fruit

tree is around 20 years old and for the first time has fruit, are they viable and could i propagate them to come true' any special care eg stratifying?

its a great plant and as owdboggy says as it is a species plant it will come true.

If it is the straight species then yes it will come true from seed. You need to remove the seed from the pod and wash it in warm soapy water to remove the waxy covering. This helps germination. then sow as any other seed. Put the pot somewhere safe but exposed to winter weather and then wait. They can take a few years before they germinate. I have at present one surviving plant from seed sown 3 years ago.
