Is it too late to scarify the lawn?

I started to do it manually but it was just too hard so I thought I would hire an electric scarifier. Now I wonder if it's better to wait until Spring.

Thanks Bamboo. I'll hire a scarifier then - after half term - and hope it stays fine.Should I put lawn sand on afterwards?

Probably too late, think it needs to go down by end September, mid October. Feed it next spring, and don't forget to aerate after scarifying. Just think how fit you'll be after all that...

We are hoping for more rain before scarifying, if we do it now it will only be a light dethatch, with a top dressing of Surrey loam, followed if there is no hard frost by Autumn/Winter feed. Over in Richmond it will be almost the same.

Oh what a lot I still have to learn. Thank you both for your advice, and yes Bamboo, fit I will surely be!

Best done in the autumn, really, as long as the ground's not wet, sorry, Ginellie! It usually looks absolutely awful afterwards, and you don't really want that in the spring, well I don't, anyway.
