i have a river birch tree in my back yard. It is getting taller then wider. Can we cut it back or top it?Also will it loose sap?

This tree is good for coppicing to produce multiple stems. Do this in winter when the tree is dormant.

It wont lose sap when you take the top out. Just be careful when you cut it as the wood will be heavy. make sure you stay safe.
