do these look like rowan 'seedling/saplings' to you?
they are about 2yrs old now. but i love the autumn colour.

It looks like rowan to me. Are there any trees nearby, the seeds don't tend to travell very far unless carried by birds.

this might sound daffed to you experts' but could it be an acer somthing like japonicum vitifolium, vine-leaved full moon maple ???

I have one planted in the front garden for 2 yrs now and it used to be in a pot in the back near to where this pot is. so perhaps thats how they got there. I hope they are rowan as I know exactly where i want to plant them.

Does look like a Rowan but not a common one, try Hupeh Rowan, sorbus hupehensis, just to put a spanner in the works.

The stems look quite thick? How about Sorbus sargentii??

This sounds intriguing. The Rowan I have in the front garden came from a berry of the tree planted in the front garden where we used to live. I have pictres of my rowan in my plant file. so I must have a closer look. The berries are quite orangey.

I have looked S sargentii but the leaf isnt as serrated as these 2 little ones.
