My RHS book says it's hardy, and likes fertile, humus rich, moist but well-drained soil in part or full shade. It should spread if it likes its position!

Why not pot the roots up, put them in a coldframe for the winter and plant them out in the spring. I suppose they could also go straight in the ground, if it's not frozen, but I think I'd be cautious!

Aren't you lucky! :-)))

Thank you Spritz, you've been very helpful....how deep should i plant these little roots?

Can you see a 'growing point' on each root? I think that should be just at the surface or maybe just covered, so it doesn't get frosted.
