Isle of Wight, United Kingdom
I have got 4 cuttings which I am trying to propagate of lonicera hildebrandiana (Giant Burmese Honeysuckle).
Has anyone else got one of these in their garden, and how does it lend itself to our climate. I am on the Isle of Wight, and it does grow on the South side of the Isle.

Thanks, do you know anyone that has one of these? My garden suffers frost damage, but I am planning planting that will protect more tender plants, but at this is a climber, you can protect the roots, but the rest is up to nature. The cuttings of Hilda are pretty hard to propagate, so I am at a loss already the rot always wins over the root in my case!!

I have known of that Lonicera which was grown under a glass canopy on a south facing wall. If you grow yours on in the greenhouse, by summer you should have a good size plant, then plant them out, they do lose their leaves in cold weather, but it can get to be a very big climbing plant, so it will need strong supports.

In the Botanical Gardens, it is growing over a 3ft wall in a partial shady area, the leaves are on it at the moment and it does flower every year. I will find somewhere protected and warm and see how I go. I'm not a huge fan of honeysuckle as a rule, but with the evergreen large leaves and the flowers are huge and smell like mango. It is similar, but a totally unique specimen of lonicera and I thought I would give it go. Thanks for your feedback A x Happy New Year!!

Andrea, is your garden in a frost pocket?. You may find you have a place which is warm enough in winter and in it's dormant time you can cover it up.
