Are they Zandenteschia type of arum? if they are they can go outside after all danger of frost. If they are the Arum macculata type then they are fully hardy in the UK and live outside in the ground all year. [in fact they can become a bit of a pest.]
Dont know what your area in NZ is like so hope this helps.
