Has anyone else had their hellebore flowers eaten this winter? I was just about to tidy up the leaves and show off the flowers in their full glory - when suddenly all I had was 4-5" stalks! No sign of feeding remains or shredded petals etc - just stalks. I'm really disappointed as normally they form a lovely swathe of colour in the shelter of a drystone wall at a time when little else is showing. I presume it could have been greedy woodpigeons getting a bit peckish (sorry!) during the two weeks of lying snow - and I suppose their need was greater than mine!

That sounds like typical pigeon damage I am afriad. They will be ok next year, though that is little consolation.

I wondered where mine had gone - I didn't know Pigeons did this.

Thank you everybody for responding - it makes it a little better knowing that it isn't just me! Also, it is the first time in four years that this has happened, so the conditions must just have been against me. I hope that pigeons have very bad memories! Thank goodness the pulmonaria are budding up nicely - there will be some colour there soon!

« If I move white bells now are they likely to flower this year, any tips please.
What a disappointment, you must be devastated. I hope our pigeons don't get to hear about it!
