We have just put in a rock garden out the front of our house, the garden was cleared then weed mat was put in, then there was a lot of small rocks put on top, question is what is the best thing to do with it now?

There are hundreds if not thousands of wonderful so called Alpine plants in New Zealand, use them rather than imported aliens.

Plant it up with a good mix of dwarf conifers, alpines and bulbs, then add a nice layer of ornamental gravel, shingle or slate over the entire area.
