What you are seeing is the cotyledon (seed) leaves of the sunflowers, Kate. You need to leave them until they have produced their first proper leaves before transplanting them. They are starting to look a bit 'leggy', can you move the trays to somewhere with more light?

they are in the conservatory at the moment..I dont have a greenhouse but working on it :) could I put them outside during the day if its sunny its been very pleasent today in sunny wolverhampton?

Try to avoid the seedlings getting a large and sudden change in temperature. That would shock them.
