The plain species as the second part of the name specifies (coccinea) literally means scarlet. There are of course horticultural named selections in pink, white, and very pale pink but the true species is predominantly scarlet flowered.

I agree with Fractal. I have S.coccinea major and it is a deep scarlet red, as well as a mid pink one and a very pale pink almost white one called Pink Princess.
