Hi
i have for some time now been searching the net to find an answer to my dilemma, i have just planted 76 privet TWIGS and that is what they are some have 4-5 twigs and some have only 2 twigs, some are about a meter high and others are only 12" or less, i would like to have my hedge bushy from the ground up, and about 1&1/2 meters high, as they are only twigs and have just been planted when is the best time to prune them? how far back should i do this? and how often..... PLEASE END MY MISERY
P.s they are well rooted some have at least 2' of roots. Thank you all for your advice, I will post pics to show their development as time goes by

I'm slightly confused - are you saying that you've planted hardwood cuttings, that is, twigs without roots, in the last month or so, and are wondering whether these need cutting back now? Or are you saying these are plants, with roots, which happen to only have one or two twiglike growing areas?

Now is as good a time as any to prune and I would cut them all back to about 9 inches tall.
